1986 Jeep CJ7 Renegade
For consignment, a 1986 Jeep CJ7 Renegade, restored in 2020 and with an engine that was rebuilt less than 3,000 miles ago. This Jeep will be coming with two sets of doors, YJ ½ doors and CJ full soft doors and top.
Exterior
Classic Jeep decals adorn this rig that's painted with Charcoal Gray Metallic with contrasting shades of blue on stripes, the word Renegade on the hood sides, and the triple V that flows over the hood. In front, mirror-like chrome covers the 7 slot grille and flat front bumper while a Stealth winch stands in the ready on top. More polished metal covers the hinges, the side mirrors, the step bars, and the rear bumpers. While the inside of the 15-inch Jeep wheels are white, the rims are polished and each wears a 33x12.5R15LT all terrain tire with a mid 2020 date code. The body keyed roll bar is a nice touch and a full size spare hangs on the back. Imperfections are limited to some bubbling under a decal and on paint near it.
Interior
The half doors wear a plastic black door panel with an expanded header that allows you to look cool and rest your arm on the door. Corbeau heated seats, black leather with cloth inserts, are tall and supportive, and have harness ports, just in case. The rear bench is also a clean Corbeau seat and is flanked with speakers that are part of bigger units in the way back. The standard Jeep steering wheel leads to a brushed aluminum dashboard that houses gauges, knobs, and vents in the middle, and those controls include air conditioning. The gear shifter and range selector are floor mounted where we find the rubberized floor covering topped with carpeted mats.
Drivetrain
Unhook the latches and open the hood where we find the rebuilt 258ci inline six cylinder fueled by a Holley Sniper EFI system and tied to a T5 5-speed manual transmission. Power is initially sent to the AMC 20 rear axle and then via a Dana 300 transfer case to the Dana 30 axle in front. Power brakes are onboard with discs in front and drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
Very clean underneath where we find some typical surface rust on pans and leaf springs. There's no road dirt, sand, or mud under here and the brake components and steering knuckle are free of debris and grease. We don't see any leaks either. A single exhaust leads from the engine to a stock style muffler, then exits out back via a polished tailpipe. Leaf spring suspension is found front and rear.
Drive-Ability
These end up on our wish list every time we take a nice one in, and this one fits the bill. The seats induce confidence as we steer our way through the test loop which of course, includes turns. The Jeep takes the turns with the expected roll but stays grounded and surefooted as we open up to straight runs. Plenty of power, great tracking on the knobbies, and working brakes. All functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand. This is until you get behind the wheel! These are vehicles that get you from A to B with some adventure. And whether you're trekking to Cold Stone Creamery or Coldwater Canyon, there's never a dull moment behind the wheel of a CJ. You could be a cubicle dweller with a 9-5 job, but you'll be Grizzly Adams or Daisy Duke on your ride home. Talk about stress relief
