1992 GMC Typhoon
For consignment, a 1992 GMC Typhoon. Powered by 4.3 liters of V6 engine, with a TurboTweak performance chip and a turbocharger to help it along, a host of added in gauges, as well as some Belltech suspension mods and a rebuilt and worked 700R4 automatic transmission add up to one serious performer. 1 of 1,262 produced with black on black in 1992, this one is well preserved showing 127,739 title verified actual miles on the odometer.
Exterior
Looking much like a mild mannered GMC Jimmy save for the flared rocker add ons, and blackened windows and trimmings, the only thing giving it away was the Typhoon badging, which has been removed for an even stealthier look. Otherwise it could be your soccer mom everyday driver retaining anonymous, going about its everyday business. Straight steel, all black nice paint with a few imperfections and inclusions, and tinted windows with even a roof rack keep up the secrecy. Keeping all 4 wheels of this pocket rocket SUV on the ground are the factory 16-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 245/50R16 radials showing a 5th week of 2019 manufacture date. Darth Vader menacing indeed!
Interior
With enough black leather to cloak the entire entourage of the band Whitesnake, leather buckets present upfront, and a rear fold down bench with large cushy armrests are within a clean original interior. Some light wear is noted on the leather seating up front along with age folds and wrinkles that match the mileage shown. A nice gray dash is fronting the passengers, and save for some aftermarket "A" pillar mounted AEM air/fuel ratio, oil and water temperature gauges, its stock GM build. Clean black carpeting floods the floors and a center console setup in between the buckets. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD player is within the dash, and a full array of factory gauges present themselves in front of the driver and are backed up by the aged leather wrapped steering wheel. Behind the rear seats we note an added speaker box, amp and bass tube along with a relocated battery.
Drivetrain
The money shot if you will, within an all clean engine bay, we see a 4.3 liter turbocharged V6 mill. A cold air intake and TurboTweak Velosyty performance chip has been added to up the pony count. A rebuilt in 2020 and upgraded to hold 700hp 700R4 4-speed automatic is now strapped on to the back of the engine and sports a billet 3,200rpm stall converter. The rear axle is a 10 bolt design and is a 3.73 posi setup and the front axle is equipped the same. A multitude of receipts are included to back up the rebuild of the engine and transmission.
Undercarriage
Just a slight bit of surface rust on the usual suspects, but otherwise a clean and rust free structure and underside. Wilwood power disc brakes are on front, and power drums for the rear and we note the addition of a Wilwood master cylinder. A single piped stainless steel muffler system hangs underneath. Belltech Nitro 2 drop shocks on all 4 corners dampen the ride and work with the independent torsion bar suspension in the front and the lowered 2" leaf spring arrangement in the rear.
Drive-Ability
With it's evil black stare I slipped inside and was impressed by the comfortable leather buckets. She fired right up and on the test track it performed above my expectations. It definitely opened my eyes, and woke me up when pressing the accelerator, as I did not expect that! Great acceleration, smooth cruise, bias free panic stopping, and firm positive shifting for the automatic. Fun fun fun, a wolf in wolf's clothing if you will with all functions operating as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you're ready to become one of the elite Typhoon owners and join the ranks of Clint Eastwood, John F. Kennedy Jr, and Bob Seger then head on down to the Classic Auto Mall and make this black storm your own. A rebuilt and upgraded transmission and a V6 engine and a turbo system, this black beauty is ready to rock and roll. As a side note, the towing capability of this truck is ZERO, the only thing it can haul is ASS!!!
