1970 Ford F100 Short Bed Pickup
For consignment, a 1970 Ford F100 short bed pickup which substantiates Ford's 1970 claim of "riding like a car" with the addition of a Coyote V8 under the hood! Back in '70, the best you could do on an F100 was 255 horsepower with a 390ci V8. At minimum, the Coyote 5.0 liters churns out 360hp and has potential for much more.
Exterior
With a canine tucked under the hood, the exterior hides a wolf under sheep's clothing, looking very much like your average work truck from 1970. Of course, the 18-inch American Racing Torque Thrust wheels with 45 series tires are like having dog paws poking from beneath the wool and hints of illicit intent. But up above, the Wimbledon White truck looks farm ready, and its Ranger XLT status puts woodtone inserts in its bright side molding and a woodtone tailgate panel on its styleside body. Front and rear chrome bumpers are straight and true and the eggcrate grille is classically American, vertical and strong with round headlights in square bezels at its flank. The bed is rhino coated in black and the solid rear window is topped by a bed light. The metal work, paint, and emblems are in great shape and imperfections noted include some general fading and chipping of the black accent paint around trim and emblems, chipped paint, bubbling, and slight surface rust under the rocker panel, other spots of bubbling.
Interior
An interior by TMI updates the inside including the stitch patterned door cards that include a pleated map pocket on each side. The split bench is a great upgrade as it provides integrated bolstering and side support in a continuous flow of red leather with dark thread stitching. With a large red center console added, there won't be any old school side by side shotgunning in this cab, but at least you'll both be super comfortable on your individual sides. A fat sporty steering wheel leads to Dakota Digital dashboard which retains some of the period that mixes with modern displays and capabilities. The center of the dash wears Wimbledon white and houses an AM/FM radio, a retro sound system that plays through speakers in the center console, and A/C controls. Red loop carpet covers the floor, and a perforated headliner is above and would have been standard on the XLT and touted for its sound absorption. DrivetrainLooking right at home under the hood is a super clean 5.0 liter Coyote V8, fuel injected and tied to a 6R80 6-speed automatic transmission. Power, and likely lots of it, is sent to the Ford 9 inch axle out back. To haul those horses in, power disc brakes are supplied at each wheel, while headers provide the exhalation process.
Undercarriage
Very clean underneath where the big exhaust system joins by H-pipe on its way to meet Borla mufflers, then the trail the length of the truck to exist discreetly behind the quarter panels. The gas tank is rear mounted with filler in the bed. Suspension here is coil springs in front and leaf spring, semi-trailing arms and coil-overs the back. The knuckles and wheel components are free of grease and debris and surface rust present is mostly reserved for the frame rails.
Drive-Ability
A cabin more comfortable than just about any 1970 interior provides the perch for a truck that truly feels like a car on wide 45 series tires. The exhaust provides a healthy growl and the engine provides for notable acceleration and the truck handles, stops, and tracks in stellar fashion. All systems work on the truck and this one is ready to go! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This resto-mod has it all! A classic exterior with a muscular stance, a modernized interior with bells and whistles, and of course, the venerable Coyote engine howling under the hood. It's ready for a new den to call home, and someone behind the wheel who's ready to catch red light prey off guard when the light turns green. Watch out, Roadrunners!
