1968 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova Sedan
For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova sedan that doesn't stray from stock appearance but has some very nice powerplant modifications that resulted in a dyno proven 431.6 horses under the cowl hood.
Exterior
Matador Red covers the car in two stage goodness and is complemented by the black vinyl top, a common feature of cars in this era. Looking at the profile, it's apparent that this car's slightly raked stance with staggered size Chevy Rally wheels and tires indicates this car might mean business, or at least is posing as such. The cowl hood puts the poser status to rest as a 383 stroker emblem is affixed to each side and it would be bad etiquette to wear that badge and not pack heat under the hood. A mesh grille is surrounded by nice chrome trim and bumper and the updated headlights sit in a black bezel, while the turn signals are down on the bumper. The rear view was amazingly common back in the day, those simple taillights over a wide bumper contouring around the license plate. Black trim over the rocker panel is a wonderful accent that picks up on not only the tires, but the black vinyl roof which is in excellent condition. The paint is also near excellent, and blemishes are limited to scrapes and some roughness on the lower panel behind the wheels, and a scuff on a bumper where it wraps around.
Interior
Standard fare inside with black vinyl door cards in a rather conservative design, this was a commuter after all, and crank windows were still dominant. Low back black vinyl bucket seats occupy the front and are in great shape. Push the chrome button on top and access the back bench which is minty fresh. A three-spoke steering wheel shares some column real estate with an Equus tachometer which partially blocks the horizontal speedometer. The dash and its switchgear are all in good condition and the T-handle shifter in the center console is joined by a green tinted indicator bar. The loop style black carpet is topped with red and black Chevrolet Racing mats which pick up on the red exterior and help protect the floor covering. Up top, the headliner is high and tight, and the trunk is clean and houses a steel wheel with redline tire spare.
Drivetrain
According to the consignor, there's less than 500 miles on the 383ci stroker crate motor that is absolutely gleaming in the engine bay. Chrome valve covers, polished metals, and coated headers produce a show worthy presentation and some power too. It's got Blueprint Racing aluminum heads and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, all in front of a new in 2020 Summit Racing TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to a 10-bolt rear with 3.08 gears. This car is equipped with power disc brakes in front and power drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
We find a little surprise under this clean underside! It appears the dual exhaust has grown a pair of appendages in the form of cut-outs before the glasspack style mufflers, and this is controlled by a switch inside. Beyond that point, the main exhaust continues to exit behind the rear fenders. There's very little surface rust, no dripping oil, and no build up of grease. There's some residual oil on the pan. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs with traction bars out back.
Drive-Ability
Even with the cut-outs shut, the exhaust puts out a sweet tone and the 383 cubes eagerly pushes forward with power that is obvious and on tap. Handling, braking, tracking all get good marks and all operational features are working as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
You're not sneaking up on anyone with this bright red raked ride and its power bulge, traction bars, and meaty tires. What once would have been a rather bland passenger car is now a visually and auditorily loud car that is not shy about its ability to go fast and dole out some power. It's well sorted and in great shape and we know there are Nova lovers out there who are salivating. Well, wipe your mouth and call the mall before this stroker gets away.
