1960 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Sedan
For consignment, a 1960 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door sedan that has gone through a restoration 2 ½ years ago, has fresh paint, and is packing some heat with 454ci under the hood. We often talk about rolling art and would put this 1960 in the category with its amazing lines and unique shape.
Exterior
Ermine White two stage paint is interrupted by the jet plane trim on the rear quarter panel which is trailed by a blue band to the tail, intersected by a silver trim piece. This is one highlight of the car's profile which is full of highlights! From the grille back to the cowl, it's pretty typical early 60's Americana, then the windshield curves and wraps around to back canted A-pillars that create a rounded crown forward cab. But wait, there's more! The long roof sweeps back dramatically into another curved piece of glass in the back window, which in turn creates pointed rear side windows in contrast to the rounded fronts. Then comes that long tail with knife-like edges that loop back to form overhanging horizontal fins. With the exception of some brown discoloration on the front bumper, all of the metal work is in great shape and that includes the miles of trim pieces. 15-inch chrome steel wheels add to the shiny accoutrements and lack hubcaps. We had a hard time finding flaws in the paint...it's quite good.
Interior
That blue vapor trail on the exterior is picked up on the interior as vinyl over cloth door panels present in simple form and the split bench seat mirrors the material use and is in great condition. The rear bench is impeccable, also velour-like and that transmission hump on the floor brings back memories of childhood for some of us. A 3 spoke, ivory ringed steering wheel presents itself to the driver and is fronted by a jet age gauge pod, 5 hooded gauges with a big speedometer front and center. The curvaceous dash cover flows to the center where the radio would be, in this case absent. Low pile blue carpet is a bit dirty on the driver's side but looks good in the remainder of the car and the white headliner could use a bit of tightening but is otherwise intact. A massive trunk is lined with plaid matting and is in fine condition.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood reveals a very clean engine bay where lurks a 454ci V8 with a 4-barrel Holley carburetor over an Edelbrock intake manifold. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission rows this boat and sends power to 3.36 gears in back. Drum brakes are used front and back. The engine's bay's combination of chrome pieces, polished metal and flat black painted inner fenders creates a show ready display.
Undercarriage
The X-frame was beefed up for the third generation and it's a substantial piece of architecture underneath where we find things clean and dry with only sporadic incidences of typical surface rust. The dual exhaust includes a pair of stock style mufflers and exits inconspicuously out back. Coil springs are found up front while a 3 link with coil springs and a panhard bar are out back. Under the doors, we find masking tape which appears to be holding the weather stripping on but also covers some surface rust.
Drive-Ability
This is one of those cars that defined cruising, it's long and low and makes a bold statement out back. Meanwhile, she fired right up and provided a comfortable ride with great visibility and functionality, and obviously, power on tap. The heater core has been disconnected and the heater blower does not work nor does the horn. Everything else is ready for takeoff!
This car looks great, sounds great, rides great. All the work's been done for you, all you have to do is load up its 211 inches and take it home. Whether you live in Bel Air, California, Bel Air Maryland, or anywhere in between, this car is worth a look. As always, our car specialists are standing by to assist you!
