1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
For consignment, a Stingray from 1969. This car retains its factory exterior look and has a rebuilt date correct but not numbers matching 427ci V8. A new 11" clutch kit, and good looking convertible and I'm ready to relive 1969 all over again and again.
Exterior
It's 1969 and this Corvette is bathed in a non-original medium blue metallic over the fiberglass moldings that make up the body. This design utilizes some nice curves, has a retro throwback with the shark "gills" in the front quarter, and uses glorious chrome, (soon to go away!). That chrome leads the way with a V shaped front bumper and surrounding grille supports, all in good condition. Stingray now one word is showing up in badging just above the "gills". Chrome window surrounds and side view mirrors are there too and a stainless-steel rocker covering emphasizes the exaggerated coke bottle design of the sensuously curved sides. The white canvas convertible top is clean and looking good with a clear rear window. This is completely covered by a fiberglass lift up panel just in front of where a trunk lid would be. It gently lands on the rear deck where the gas filler cap is in the very center and should inclement weather arise, a white painted fiberglass hardtop is included. The back of the car leaves an impression too with the split chromed bumpers, round taillights and dual exhaust exiting from the roll pan on each corner. 15-inch deep trim ringed rally wheels are on all 4 corners and all are wrapped with raised white lettered Futura GLS Super Sport radials.
Interior
In wonderful contrast to the exterior blue, we offer up a black vinyl and leather covered interior. This black first makes its appearance on the door panels. Neatly molded and sculpted with small striped black vinyl center panels, the lock turn knobs, door actuators, and window cranks are housed here. Slipping into the high back thin design buckets we have smooth black bolsters and tuck and roll leather inserts. These chairs are in excellent condition, as is the center console with the console moving towards the dash in molded black plastic to cover the hump. Also here is the shift lever handbrake and ashtray surrounded in back plastic. Moving up from the console we have the radio which is a factory AM/FM system. Also 5 gauges are lined up above in a panel that monitors everything but your blood pressure, (as the brochure says!). A nice black rally steering wheel with a trio of spokes which come together in the center and mount up with the black center steering column. An angled dash houses dual deep inset round speedo and tach as well as eyeball vents, and a few simple pulls. Padded black vinyl covers the dash and dash top and is all in excellent condition. Slightly faded black carpeting is on the floors, and this wraps up a very clean presentation...take a black bow!
Drivetrain
A forward flip of the hood, and we see a date-correct and rebuilt 427ci V8 block complete with power steering with new linkage, hoses, ram, bushings and gear. This circa 1969 block has been fitted with domed pistons, a .030 overbore, and bolted on top are a pair of redone oval port heads that have been treated to a 3 angle valve job, stainless valves, and a swirl polish. A single Quickfuel 750cfm 4-barrel carburetor is on top. On the back is a Borg Warner T10 4-speed manual transmission circa 1976 with a new 11" clutch. Way in the back an AV coded 3.08 Positraction rear axle is on. All very clean and corrosion free with like new hoses, chrome valve covers, and an open filter element air cleaner assembly.
Undercarriage
Slight wear and patina are seen underneath with a black frame in all steel is showing with some repairs at the rear dog legs, a patch on the driver's outboard side in front of the rear tires, and some heavy rust in the passenger's front spring perch. All independent coil spring suspension is noted up front and on back, a fully independent suspension with frame anchored differential unit. Transverse leaf springs are here as well. Fully redone power disc brakes are all around and all is fine underneath on this 69.
Drive-Ability
I just adore these late 60's 'Vettes so I hopped into the thin high backs and it was off to the test track, (definitely one of the perks of this job!). Here this car has great acceleration, bias free panic stopping, and great handling with that complex suspension. I noted a few frowns on my drive, those being; headlights that turn on but don't rotate up, a wiper cowl that doesn't open, the clock not keeping time, and the rear turn signals wouldn't work with the headlights on.
Here you have a clean high performance piece of sculpture that you can drive everyday reliably, and look great while doing it. The blue is definitely an eye catcher and with the pristine black interior and peppering of chrome it certainly is 1969 again!
