This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Two-Door Hardtop was modified to Pro-Street style in the 1990s.
The 355ci V8 engine was rebuilt by PK Machine in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, using Dart SHP cylinder heads, Mahle pistons and rings, Molnar connecting rods, a custom COMP Cams camshaft, and Scorpion rocker arms. The engine is further equipped with a Roots-style supercharger, dual 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetors, a BDS polished aluminum blower scoop, an MSD 6AL-2 ignition module, coated long-tube exhaust headers, and polished valve covers and accessories. The aluminum radiator is cooled by a switch-operated electric pusher fan.
The car is painted Garnet Red with 3-color fade graphics on the lower body panels. The engine, topped by a BDS polished aluminum blower scoop and air filters, extends through the top of the custom hood. A tubular grille insert has been added along with “Blown 55” fender plaques, and the shaved trunk lid features a recessed license plate box with a center brake light. The glass, trim, and chrome bumpers were replaced during the rebuild, and the glass was tinted. Bubbling paint and several chips are shown up close in pictures.
The interior is upholstered in gray velour with stylized graphics. The door panels feature red “Pro 55” script, graphic insets, and billet aluminum hardware. Also equipped with a padded roll bar, front bucket seats, Hurst shifter, and Lecarra steering wheel. The trunk is carpeted in gray to complement the cabin. The battery is concealed behind a decorative bulkhead panel with “Blown 55” inset. The trunk is opened electrically with a button under the rear bumper.
Wheels are mounted with Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires, 26×7.50” front and 33×21.50” rear; rear wheel wells are tubbed. Suspension has adjustable coilovers all around, with tubular front control arms and a four-link rear suspension with a Panhard bar, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes.
The Lecarra steering wheel frames a Classic Instruments 140-MPH speedometer, and fuel and oil gauges. An AutoMeter tachometer with an integrated shift light is mounted on the dash, along with gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage output, and boost pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 339 miles. The rebuilt engine only has approximately 50 miles on it. This car was trailered to shows, and won several awards for Best in Class over the years. It was photographed with well-known actors and sports figures as well.
The Muncie four-speed manual transmission was rebuilt at Lindblad Chassis in Northbridge, Massachusetts, using hardened gears and a Centerforce 10.5” friction disc. It is linked to a 9” rear end with an Eaton Detroit Locker differential, 4.56:1 gearing, and Moser drive axles. The frame has been powder-coated black.
This car also comes with a receipt binder and a clean Massachusetts title.
